A bullet can travel a mile or more...

This chef was grazed by a falling .22 the other day. Know your target and what's beyond, and don't shoot into the air!

H&K's don't go off on their own (and neither do other modern handguns)

Looks like that airline pilot, who we mentioned last week, may have mishandled his gun.

An important lesson to those who carry - follow the rules!

Finger off the trigger (the rule he probably broke), keep it pointed in a safe direction, and keep it unloaded until you're ready to use it!

Pilot's gun discharges during flight

Odds are, someone or something squeezed the trigger. Regardless, this goes to show that people who carry must be VERY CAREFUL to make sure their guns do not go off accidentially. Make sure to carry in a safe manner - with the trigger guard covered or with a manual safety engaged - at all times, to prevent a potential accident.

This historic case could change the way gun laws are handled in the U.S.

    False reasoning

Looks like college presidents are rallying against Okla. allowing some to carry on campus. I guess because the campuses now, which don't allow any form of carry, are so safe? What kind of logic are they applying, here? The discussion wouldn't even be had if the "gun-free" campuses were safe, would it?

Okla. allowing some to carry on campus

    Woman raped at UC hospital

UC Hosptital (like nearly all hospitals and all UC properties) are gun-free zones. That, obviously, doesn't make them victim-free zones...

DC gunban case is a BIG deal

The Supreme Court will be ruling on a historic case this summer- whether or not the Washington DC gun ban (handguns have been illegal there since the 70s) is constitutionally legal.

This is not only unique, but it could also have a serious ripple effect on other gun laws.

A good article here on the case. We'll keep you updated...

Campaign growing for allowing guns on campus

    Op-Ed: Guns Save Lives
It's all too predictable. A day after a gunman killed six people and wounded 18 others at Northern Illinois University, The New York Times criticized the U.S. Interior Department for preparing to rethink its ban on guns in national parks. As usual, the Times editors seem unaware of how silly their argument is.

    Mobility-Impaired Disabled Hunter Access
Several years ago a group of disabled hunters approached the Division of Wildlife to develop a plan to improve access to public hunting areas. It has taken a lot of work, planning and communication efforts. Last year I was honored to write a resolution to be submitted to the League of Ohio Sportsmen calling on the Division of Wildlife to work to open more land to mobility-impaired hunter access.

    They're Coming for Your Guns
Tucked into the final paragraph, a recent story in U.S. News and World Report highlighted the Washington D.C. Police Gun Recovery Unit, a unit of about two dozen officers whose mandate is exactly as it sounds: Every day about two dozen officers fan out across the city's roughest neighborhoods, stopping drivers and pedestrians for traffic and other offenses and executing warrants in search of illegal guns. The accompanying video will make law-abiding gun owners queasy.

Op-Ed: Why you should carry every day
Several spree killings in non-permissive places like colleges or in states that don't have concealed-carry laws have blasted the gun-control debate back onto the national stage. Pro-gun advocates accurately pointed out that in Illinois, where two of the spree killings took place, citizens are denied their constitutional right to self-defense through the right to bear arms. Being disarmed in the face of a deranged killer must be a terrifying experience.

CCRKBA says press purposely downplays key role of armed student in Jerusalem
An armed student at Jerusalem’s Mercaz Haray seminary played a crucial role in stopping a gun-wielding terrorist Thursday, but the American press is downplaying his heroism because it proves that armed students can stop campus gunmen, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

    When Liberals Rationalize
Professor Laurence Tribe has published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal that has some folks scratching their heads bloody. In this piece, Tribe interjects his opinion on the D.C. v. Heller case about to be argued in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. Typical of his genus (liberis thinkeumsupremis), Tribe's piece is a splendid example of intellectual obfuscation.

Again, this guy didn't just "freak-out"

The Wendy's shooting is another recent example of a nutjob who didn't just "freak-out," it appears the guy has a history of craziness.

Past this, it also shows what real-world incidences of violence are like - fast, furious, and very scary. This is why those who carry must be comfortable with their weapon of choice and willing to use it when the situation requires it.

Even a paramedic who is exchanging his kid's happy-meal toy is a potential victim...

Cell phones give students false sense of security

Many people think that devices that allow you to communicate, like call boxes or cell phones, will make you safer. While it's probably a good idea to have some form of communication in case of an emergency, criminals often don't care if there's a way for you to contact one. They run off after they're done robbing/raping/beating/whatever so there's no time for someone to come to the rescue, anyway.

In fact, a recent study suggests that cell phones might actually push college students to take unnecessary risks, with a false sense of security that help is only a phone-call away.

The fact is - when you're confronted with an immediate, life-threatening danger, the best way to deal with it is to STOP the threat. That's why concealed carry is so effective.

To my gun-owning Democrat friends: How could you vote for either one?
I've spent the last few weeks examining the choices left on the GOP primary ballot. I thought on this Ohio Primary eve I would take a look the choices my pro-gun Democrat friends are facing. In Ohio alone, approximately 1/2 million people have hunting and/or concealed handgun licenses. More importantly, Ohio gun owners made up 27 percent of the total vote in Ohio in the year 2000, the year Al Gore lost his Presidential bid thanks in large part to the pro-gun vote.

It really is ok to be liberal and support individual gun rights
Yes, really. Democrats throughout Ohio and across the country would be well advised to take a closer look at elected officials like Ohio's Governor Ted Strickland and U.S Congressman Zack Space. These gentlemen are both true to the Democrat party and yet are unwavering in their support of protecting our individual right to bear arms. And believe it or not folks, it's working for them.

Why a convention center in Wilmington was Ohio's safest place last weekend
Regular readers of this website will recall that the last time a member of the media from Cincinnati went to a gun show, the results were atrocious. A November 2007 hatchet-job by NBC Cincinnati's Eric Flack contained ridiculous references to everything from 90-round SKS rifles to the Columbine school massacre, all in an effort to aid his gun ban lobby friends in their efforts to ban all private sales of firearms at gun shows. Recently, another member of the Cincinnati media attended a gun show. Only this time, the coverage was far different.

Op-ed: Even at VT all issues not addressed
Because mass shooting events are still rare, the authorities correctly deduced that any improvements in campus security that would help deal with shootings should also be useful for other emergencies.
